Gold in '07, Silver in '08 & GOLD in '09!

I won the GOLD in the McAllen Golden Age Olympics today! This is a 3-day double elimination tournament held every year for all Rio Grande Valley players, and I went undefeated to take 1st place. I must say I played really well thru the whole tournament, not having a tough time with any opponent. This was the shuffleboard 'singles' tournament, next week the 'doubles' will begin and in two weeks the 'mixed-doubles'. I will play with Lucille in the 'doubles' and Stan in the 'mixed-doubles'. Hopefully, we will do as well. God Bless & Happy Shuffling!

WE DID OK!

Well, another 1st this week, but in Consolation not Main. That's OK - it's another 10 points for the season, which gives me a total of 118 so far and I'm thrilled about that. My partner, Lucille just came off of a 2 wk. bout with the flu and was not quite up to par. We both lost our first game Tues. on a court we just couldn't handle. I finally figured out way too late that you could not shoot from the '1' position. The court was high in the center and you had to play it from the '3' or '4' position, which our opponents did. They lost their second game and were out, but we won our next five games. The Golden Age Olympics is also going on now in McAllen. It's a double elimination event, so you can loose one and work your way back up. So far, after only two games I am undefeated in that tournament and will play again today. I'll be up against a tough opponent this morning, but if my 'clearing' is on I should be OK. God Bless & Happy Shuffling!

WE DID IT AGAIN!!!

What a great end to a week that began really bad. On Monday we had to put our beloved kitty down due to complications from diabetes that she developed in September. I knew it was coming and I thought I had prepared myself, but it was so very hard to do. She had been with us for a little over ten years and like Stan has said so many times, she's the best little kitty we've ever had. Wednesday was my 55th birthday and the first day of this week's tournament. It was a beautiful day, a little cool but lots of sunshine. Our fellow shufflers were very kind with birthday wishes and hugs, and Bill and I won four games in a row. There were 102 teams entered in this tournament so we had to return the next morning and win a 5th game to be in the semis. We did that and also won the semis and the finals for the 2nd week in a row, and our 3rd First of the season! It is so much fun being Bill's partner and even more fun to win so many games. Don't know how long we can keep it up, but he says we are 'just getting started'. God Bless & Happy Shuffling!

ANOTHER 1ST!!!

Who would have thought, the way this tournament began! My partner, Bill, called at 7AM Wed. to tell me he had hurt his back and couldn't play today. He tried and tried to find a sub but couldn't. He called again at 7:30AM and said he had taken a shower and was able to dry his feet, so he was going to play. It was very evident when we met at the tournament that morning that he was in considerable pain, but he insisted on playing. Through his pain and discomfort he carried me to victories in the first two games. We had lunch and the next two games in the afternoon I played much, much better and we won another two games. The next morning his back was feeling better and I was 'hot' so we won the semis game and the finals game!! We were thrilled to have our second 1st Main of the season! I really enjoy playing with Bill - he seems to bring out the best in me, and we have a really good time. God Bless & Happy Shuffling!!
